It appears that the common answer is to just IP to the switch. If I don't know the IP address on the switch, how do I do it? How do I assign an IP address to it without accessing it? The reason I was looking for the 3COM tool was to be able to access and assign an IP address to the switch. Maybe a little more info will help. This switch was previously managed at a different account. They were retired and set on a shelf for a couple of years.
We purchased the surplus inventory and would now like to use the switch. It may have previously been assigned an IP address that we have no way to recover.
Specifically, how will I access the switch. It is currently attached via null modem cable to my laptop. I have used the update utility to flash the switch.

I read the exact same thing on 3Com's site. What does this have to do with Password Recovery?:>( I have already used the Software Update Utility and flashed the firmware. When I connect to the switch using the Software Update Utility it shows that the firmware is current. All 3com documentation indicates that I need to load a serial web utility and SLIP protocol that was provided on the 3com CD.
I don't have the CD, which brings me back to my original question, where can I download this. I have searched 3com for days. It doesn't appear to be there anymore. The bottom line is that even with the web utility I will still need to recover the password. I think Sean was on the right track, but I just don't see how to perform a password recovery using the text above. Increasing to 250 points. Sorry, I guess I didn't make myself very clear.
I already have the Serial Utility to flash the firmware as indicated in post ' 05:49AM PST.' I also indicated that flashing the switch did not restore factory default user ID and password as stated in post ' 06:21AM PST.'
The software I was looking for was the Serial WEB utility, not the Serial Update utiltiy (suu02_07.exe). From what I am reading on Compaq's site, it looks like the switch must be RMA'd to recover the password as it requires a special cable. Can anyone confirm this?
