For that class this is perfect. The text is really broad and covers many different aspects of the environment.

It is not really meant to be a case for suggestions to fix the environment rather it is meant to foster discussion. There is good scientific background in this for non science type. Enough that when it delves into small chemical and biological processes that are pertinent to the topic that the reader is not lost.

But this is just a basic text. It did seem to remain aloof of political considerations though since the book is about the environment it does tend to side with the environmentalists at some points but nothing too extreme or out there. Like I said this is meant as an introduction type textbook.

I probably would never read this on my own, too long for that and too general. The book contains information on the vast lattice that encompasses the study of the Environment.

It includes planetary history and cycles - chemical and physical, environmental laws, pesticide history and issues, environmental prevention, experimentation, and examples from various issues and successes instituted by human sanctions. It could include a few more things, but the purpose of the book is to inform, and instill further interest with more detailed research elsewhere. This is an excellent book for and Introductory class.
